Sheermal or Shirmal, is a saffron-flavored traditional flatbread made in Greater Iran and Indian subcontinent, probably from Persian influences.

Ingredient:

- 1 egg

- ¼ cup of milk

- ¼ cup of yogurt

- 3 tablespoons of sugar

- 70g butter

- 1 teaspoon of baking powder

- 500g flour

- 1¼ liquid dough

- ¼ cup of warm water

- 1 teaspoon of sugar

- 1 teaspoon on vanilla extract

For on top of the bread

- 1 egg

- 3 tablespoons of milk

- Sesame seeds

- Small amount of saffron (optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 325℉.

2. Mix your liquid dough with 1 tablespoon of sugar and then add the warm water to it and wait 10-15 minutes until the dough expands in size.

3. Mix your eggs, the 3 teaspoons of sugar and vanilla.

4. Heat up the butter to melt it then let it cool down for a little and add the milk to it.

5. Mix the liquid dough, yogurt, butter, and eggs and mix well.

6. Mix your flour and baking soda and add it to the dough and you can add more flour if the dough is too sticky.

7. Cover the top of your container and let the dough double in size.

8. Make 10-12 portions and make each portion into a string and wrap 2 around each other. Cover the top again to let the dough expand in size.

9. Mix 1 egg and 3 tablespoons of milk. Then gently wash the top of the dough portions. Add the sesame seeds.

10. Cook in the oven for about 20-30 minutes or until the top of the bread darkens and turns golden.

Enjoy!
